Walter Carlo Simms

Walter Carlo Simms, 60, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away July 24, 2025, in the comfort of his home. He was born December 30, 1964, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Locust K. Sr. and Sarah L. (O’Bannon) Simms. Walter has resided in Lyons since 1985, formerly of Brooklyn, Illinois. He graduated from Lovejoy High School, in Brooklyn, Illinois, with the class of 1983, and attended Harris Stowe University in St. Louis, Missouri. Walter found employment with Compass Minerals, formerly known as North American Salt Plant in Lyons, for the past 40 years. Walter loved riding his bike, watching college basketball, tennis, football, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Most of all Walter loved engaging with the youth, his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and especially having conversations with the family. Walter is preceded in death by his parents; Locust and Sarah Simms, Brothers; Royce, Anthony, Locust Jr. and Thomas Simms. Walter leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Glenda Iverson-Simms of Lyons, KS; three children Travis (Ariel) Simms of Jacksonville, FL, Corey Braxton of Houston, TX, and Cameron Simms of Lyons, KS; two grandchildren, Legend Simms of Cottleville, MO, and Matisse Simms of Wichita, KS; one brother, Darrell (Bridgette) Simms of Alton, IL; six sisters, Sandra Hall of Collinsville, IL, Denise Simms, of Granite City, IL Annie Cooper of Brooklyn, IL. Darlene (Ricky) Gordon of Granite City, IL, Lucinda Simms of Brooklyn, IL, Sherese Simms, of Granite City, IL; two uncles, Eddie Lee (Diane) O’Bannon of Cahokia Heights, IL, and Russell (Sherri) O’Bannon of Ballwin, MO, Sister in Laws, Brother-in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends Funeral service will be at 11am, Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Assembly of God Church, Lyons, with Pastor Larry Schumacher officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11am until service time at the church. Burial will be at Eastside Cemetery in Hutchinson, KS following the service.
