Obituary

Vernon Howard Tucker, 89, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away April 17, 2023, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. He was born February 23, 1934, in Enid, Oklahoma, the son of Ellis A. and Hazel G. Schoonover Tucker. Vernon has resided in Lyons since 1983, formerly of New Jersey and Leavenworth, Kansas. He graduated from Greensburg High School, Greensburg, Kansas, with the class of 1952. Vernon worked for Texaco Petroleum delivering fuel. He served in the United States Navy from June 17, 1953 until June 7, 1957. Tucker was a member of Faith Bible Church, Lyons. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. On December 19, 1954, Vernon was united in marriage with Mary Margaret Gabriel in Kansas City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2015. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Bob Tucker, Doris Crow, and Clifford Tucker. Vernon is survived by his two children, Douglas Tucker and wife Susan of Annandale, VA, and Tamela Gaszak and husband Richard of Mustang, OK; and three grandchildren, Cole Tucker, Courtney Tucker and Conner Gaszak. A private family burial will be held at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
