Velma Bauer Obituary

Velma Marie Schuckman Bauer, 89, passed away peacefully to be with Jesus on October 2, 2025, at Foundation Park, Manhattan, Kansas.

She was born July 29, 1936, in Ness City, Kansas, the daughter of Alexander and Anna (Schaeffer) Schuckman. On September 20, 1954, Velma married the love of her life, Charles Conrad Bauer in Jetmore Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1999. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. They had nine children. Velma is survived by her eight children, Greg Bauer, Mike Bauer, Tracy Bauer, Todd Bauer, Lori Schafer, Karla Tate, Kristi Van Horn, and Curtis Bauer; two sisters, Darlene LaBute, and Dorothy McCabe; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Carla Bauer; and two brothers, Floyd Schuckman, and Melvin Schuckman.

Velma was a beautiful, sweet, and kind mother whose life revolved around caring for her children. Her country farmhouse was always spotless, and she lovingly prepared breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Her cooking was legendary in the family. Raising eight children was her calling, and she embraced every joy and pain with grace and strength.

While Charlie was the outgoing one, Velma’s quiet wisdom shone through in her unforgettable one-liners, always thoughtful, often humorous, and deeply insightful. Her striking blue eyes, gentle smile, and sweet laughter will be missed beyond measure.

We take comfort in knowing that Velma is now dancing the polka with Charlie once again, in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 6, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Bob Pinninti officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M., until service time at the church with family present.  Memorial contributions to be made to Foundation Park Assisted and Memory Care, 4915 Colbert Hill Dr., Manhattan, KS 66503
