Valdie Sylvester Barnett, 71, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away April 25, 2024, at Sterling Village. He was born November 19, 1952, in Ann Arundel County, Maryland the son of Marion Sylvester and Eva Nadine

(Welch) Barnett. Valdie was a lifelong resident of Rice County. He was a graduate of Lyons High School. He worked for Jim’s Machine Shop in Lyons and also worked in the oil fields and as a truck driver. Valdie loved to talk about Harley Davidsons. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Rebecca Barnett. He is survived by his children; Lisa Dimitt, Teresa Medina (Jose), Valdie Barnett, Jessica Ventura (Alex), Jaime Taylor and Rose Mauck (Dustin); sister, Kathy Copp (Joe); 19 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. There will be a private family burial at Evergreen Cemetery, West Plains, Missouri at a later date. Memorials may be given to Rice County Council on Aging in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
