Thomas Howard “Tom” Alber, 81, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away July 25, 2023, at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born November 13, 1941, in Sterling, the son of Gerald Martin and Rosina Marie Norquist Alber. Tom graduated from Sterling High School. He has resided in Sterling since 2013, formerly of Coalville, Utah. Tom served in the United States Army from January 21, 1964 until his honorable discharge on January 4, 1967. He worked in the oil field for thirty-eight years as a tool pusher for True Drilling and also Sterling Drilling earlier in his life. Tom enjoyed working in his shop, fishing, boating, skiing, hunting, and most of all taking family vacations. On July 12, 1968, Tom was united in marriage with Kaffie L. Boroff in Lusk, Wyoming. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his four daughters, Debbra Sue Evans and husband Joe of Spanish Fork, UT, Stacy Ercanbrack of Coalville, UT, Angie Stuart and husband Guy of Morgan, UT, and Susan Richins and husband Gaylon of Morgan, UT; three siblings, Sharon Brower and husband Barry of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX, Mike Alber and wife Diane of Roswell, NM, and Cris Alber of Derby, KS; nine grandchildren, Amberly, Mycole, Jordan, Trevor, Tamara, Jennifer, Tanner, Baylee, and Hayden; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Tom is preceded in death by is parents. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Melissa Krabbe officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery, with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Davita Dialysis Center, Hutchinson, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
