Shirley Marie Frederick, 90, entered the presence of the Lord on May 21, 2025, at Sterling Village in Sterling, KS surrounded by family. She was born June 24, 1934, in Sylvia, the daughter of L.V. “Chic” and Hildred Moran. Shirley graduated from Sylvia High School in 1953. She continued her education by going to TWA school in Kansas City, KS and then decided to come home to work at KTVH radio as a continuity writer. Shirley was united in marriage to Tom Frederick on September 30, 1956, in Sylvia. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2022. Shirley and Tom moved to Hielbronn Germany in 1956 where they lived for two years while serving at the U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart. Upon returning from Germany, Shirley and Tom built their home in Alden, raising three children, Le’Ann, Lance, and Drew. Shirley’s passions were being involved in the church and her community, where she was instrumental in starting up the Alden Kansas Community Empowerment Program, formerly known as the PRIDE program. Her other life-long passion was attending all of her kids and grandkids school activities, whether it was sports or the arts. Love of family and being called, “Grammy” was one of her greatest joys. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Chic and Hildred. She is survived by her daughter, Le’Ann (Michael Dolechek) of Claflin; son, Lance (Lynette) of Alden; son, Drew (Connie) of Alden; grandchildren, Dane (Kristin) of Claflin; Zachary (Brooke) of Sterling; Zayn of Alden, Kassidy of Wichita; Karly of Lyons; and great-grandchildren, Grayson and Harper of Sterling; Addilyn of Claflin. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Matt Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at the Alden Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday May 22, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with family present from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rice County Community Foundation for an Alden beautification project, Sterling Village, or Reno County Hospice in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
