Shirley Jean (Pennington) Byard

Shirley Byard was one cool lady. I worked with her back in the early 90s at Underground Vault in Storage. She ran the lunchroom area and got her lunches ready for us when we came in during our lunch break. She was always great to talk to you. So glad we stayed in touch in the last few years after I ran into her at the Kansas State Fair. Pictures below. I had the fortunate pleasure to strip dance for her on her 50th birthday back in the early 90s. Did it right there top side of Underground and did it in front of all the people we worked with. We all laughed and had so much fun. In the last year, Shirley reached out to me because she was worried that I was not doing well with me trying to sell all the stuff at my mom's house in Hutch. We spoke on the phone & I told her I was downsizing the family property during the pandemic. So she felt better that I didn't have some kind of big problem. She would comment on my posts from time to time & she was always supportive. I did not realize that she died until her birthday this past year when I went on her Facebook page. She passed away in August which is interesting because I ran into her in late July or August at Walgreens and we spoke in person & hugged. That was the last time I saw or spoke to her. I'm so glad she died in her sleep. What a beautiful way to go for such a beautiful soul. May she RIP

Shirley, How impossible it seems that one week we are standing together visiting and the next week you are not visible to us. Thank you for always being sincere when asking how I was or my 3 sons. I always appreciated your thoughtfulness and kindness towards us. Your post at the Fair will remain as we remember your watchful eye over many entries. Our hearts are saddened as we miss your presence, but you, my friend, have graduated to your Heavenly Home and are breathing celestial air. Truly, Heaven is brighter today! All our love!
