Samuel Leland Hale Sr., 48, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away December 10, 2023, at his home. He was born April 1, 1975, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of Harold Duane “Howdy” and Anna Belle Starnes Hale. Samuel has resided in Lyons for the past 40 years, formerly of Miami, Oklahoma. He attended Lyons High School, Lyons, Kansas, and later attended Escoffier Culinary School, in Boulder, Colorado. Samuel worked as a chef and security guard for the Denver Mint. He was a member of numerous bowling leagues. Samuel loved to cook, enjoyed driving, fishing, card playing, gambling, and going on cruises. On September 8, 1995, Samuel was married to Katrina Carlson, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They later divorced. Samuel is survived by his mother, Anna Hale of Lyons, KS; father, Sammy Mask of Georgia; three sons, Samuel Hale Jr. and wife Eraina of Topeka, KS, John Hale and wife Stephany of Stillwater, OK, and Harold Hale of Miami, OK; brother, John Duane Hale of CA; half brother, Troy Mitchell of MI; sister, Katherine Campbell and husband Craig of Lyons, KS; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his step-father, Harold Hale; and brother, John Wayne Hale. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Ron DeVore officiating. Burial will be at Chase Springdale Cemetery, Chase, Kansas, at a later date. The family suggests memorials be given to Birzer Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses.
