Ruth Alberta "Bertie" (Crowl) Young

Ruth Alberta “Bertie” Young, 89, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away June 7, 2019, at Country Living of Lyons. She was born June 28, 1929 in Lyons, the daughter of Albert C. and Ella D. Drury Crowl. She graduated from Lyons High School. Bertie was a lifelong Rice County resident. She worked for the Rice County Courthouse, owner/operator of Forsythe Liquor, Lyons, and was a homemaker. Bertie was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, and the American Legion and VFW both of Hutchinson, Kansas. On March 22, 1953, Bertie was united in marriage with Gene Forsythe in Lyons. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1981. On May 5, 1982, Bertie was united in marriage with James F. “Jim” Young in Lyons. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2016. She is also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her step-son, Stephen Young of Salina, KS; step-daughter, Diana Wamsley and husband Gerald “Jerry” of Alva, OK; grandchildren, Heath Nickel and wife Tisha and their daughter, Cameron of Tyler, TX, Matthew Nickel and wife Ashley and their children, Emma, Eli, and Easton of Alva, OK, Lyndee Cudmore and husband Kyle and their children, Aubree and Hayes of Cherokee, OK, Tanner Gage and husband John of Stillwater, OK, Rhys Young of Washington D.C., Malia Young of Manhattan, KS, Elle Young of Dallas, TX, and Tatum Young of Salina. Funeral mass will be at 11:30 A.M., Friday, June 14, 2019 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons with Father Patrick Kotrba officiating. Parish Rosary will be said at 11:00 A.M. prior to funeral mass. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M., Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Catholic Church in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
