Ruth Oribel Duncan Hoffman, 92, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away June 4, 2020 at the Sterling Village. She was born June 12, 1927 in Alden, Kansas, the daughter of John Paul and Leonore Proffitt Duncan. Ruth has resided in Sterling for the past six years, formerly of Lyons. She graduated from Alden High School with the class of 1945, and later received her Teacher’s Certificate from Sterling College. Ruth worked as a clerk for Hollinger’s Antiques for thirty years, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Music Club, and the Red Hat Society, all of Lyons. Ruth enjoyed playing her violin, cross stitching, and spending time with her family. She also wrote family memoirs as well as her own memoir. On May 19, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage with Dean J. Hoffman in Alden, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 1, 2013. She is also preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Orville Salter; brother, Jack Duncan; and sister-in-law, Pat Duncan. Ruth is survived by her three children, Francene Mendoza of Sterling, Paul Hoffman and wife Kim of Sterling, and Tere Camilletti of Sterling; sister, Lois Long and husband Paul of Alden; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Graveside service will be held 9:00 A.M. Monday, June 8, 2020 at the Alden Valley Cemetery, with Pastor Rob Bolton officiating. Memorials may be made to the Sterling Village, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
