Ronald Frank "Ron" Thilgen Sr.

Ronald Frank “Ron” Thilgen Sr., 81, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away August 2, 2022, at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born November 8, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. Ron has resided in Lyons for the past 28 years, formerly of Federal Heights, Colorado. He worked as a telecommunications subcontractor for twenty years, Lyons Salt Plant as a sewing machine operator for twenty years, retiring in 2012. Following his retirement, he worked for Mike’s Small Engine Repair in Lyons. Ron served in the United States Army from July 19, 1966 until August 11, 1967. He was a member of the VFW in Illinois, and the Sterling Bowling League, Sterling, Kansas. Ron enjoyed wood working, small engine repair and working on cars. On May 9, 1967, Ron was united in marriage with Vicki Remley in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2013. He is also preceded in death by his parents. Ron is survived by his son, Ron Thilgen Jr. of McPherson, KS; two daughters, Bridget Wyatt of Lyons, and Debra Bradford and Rick Rutherford of Longmont, CO; daughter-in-law, Kayla Thilgen of Lyons; five grandchildren, Brittany Rawson and husband Nicholas of Lyons, Mikey Graham of Lyons, Jennifer Bradford of Longmont, CO, Crystal Johnston and husband Nick of Longmont, CO, and Alissa Spears and husband Joshua of Lyons; eight great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, with William Wyatt officiating. Military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Association in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
