Rodney Allen Taylor Obituary

Rodney Allen “Rod” Taylor, 75, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away September 13, 2024, at his home. He was born January 2, 1949, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, the son of James Taylor and Peggy Small. Rod grew up in Imperial Beach, California, and spent his recent years in Dewey, Arizona. Prior to living in Arizona, he resided in Mammoth Lakes and Bishop, California. He had just recently moved to Lyons a few days prior to his passing. He graduated from Mar Vista High School, Imperial Beach, California with the class of 1967, and attended Southwestern College, Chula Vista, California. Rod worked in sales, construction, and owned and operated a shoe store. He was the ultimate entrepreneur. He enjoyed golfing, riding motorcycles, playing softball, and buying random items off Craigslist. Rod had a huge heart, was everyone’s best friend and encourager, and could tell the best stories. On December 13, 1997, Rod was married to Kathleen Tappan in Black Canyon City, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Taylor of Lyons, KS; father, James Taylor of Imperial Beach, CA; mother, Peggy Small of San Diego, CA; daughter, Tanya Campbell and husband Thad of Temecula, CA and their children, Kylie Meyer (husband Jake, their children Samson and Charley), Carleigh Campbell, Taylor Campbell, and Bethany Campbell; stepdaughter, Kelly Keubler and her children, Lily Marcie Jones and Maverick Thor Jones of Prescott Valley, AZ; six siblings, Billy Jones, Clara Chandler and husband Tim, Gayle Hays, Dutchie Guevara, Jackie Hays, and Douglas Small all of San Diego, CA. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Fleet Reserve, 659 Silver Strand Blvd., Imperial Beach, CA 91922. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
