Robert Ward "Bob" Bishop, 66, of Lyons, KS, passed away February 5, 2020 in rural McPherson County. He was born July 17, 1953 in McPherson, KS, the son of Charles Edgar and Patricia Jane Myers Bishop. Bob graduated from Geneseo High School in 1971. He attended Hutchinson Community College and went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from Ft. Hays State University. Bob started his career at Lyons Salt Company. In 1992, he joined Ellsworth Correctional Facility, where he worked as a Staff Sergeant until he retired in 2014.
Bob was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan and loved his KU Jayhawks Men's Basketball team.
On May 1, 2010, Bob was united in marriage with Denise Marie West in Lyons. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his step daughter, Jennifer Kempson of Lyons; step son Eric Kempson of Lyons; sister, Carla(Mike) Dobosz of Geneseo; niece, Holly(Shawn) Springsteen of Colorado Springs, CO; great nephews Kaiden(Lesley) Springsteen of Arlington, TX, and Kody(Sammie) Springsteen of Ft. Collins, CO; numerous cousins; and his dog, Tilly.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents. Memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons, with Steve Holmes officiating. Burial will be at Geneseo Cemetery, Geneseo, Kansas. A lunch will be served immediately following at the Geneseo Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present. The family has asked that if you have a favorite sports team, to wear something in remembrance of Bob's love for the game. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund for the Emergency Response Team at Ellsworth Correctional Facility. Funds will go towards purchasing equipment that will allow his fellow officers to better and more safely respond to emergencies.
