Robert Moore Obituary

Robert Donald Moore, 93, of Blue Hill, Nebraska, formerly of Alden and Sterling, Kansas, passed away August 11, 2020 at Azria Health Blue Hill Care Center. He was born December 10, 1926 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Ambrose Franklin Moore and Margaret Irene Gamlin Moore. Robert ("Don") was a near lifelong Alden and Sterling resident. He graduated from Nebraska City High School with the class of 1944. Robert went on to receive a bachelor’s degree, and later received his Master’s Degree from the Western State College of Colorado, Gunnison, CO. Robert served in the United States Navy during WWII from June 1, 1944 until his honorable discharge on June 25, 1946. On October 25, 1946, he was united in marriage with Mary Darlene Hauptman in Omaha, Nebraska and was married for 73 years to the love of his life. By profession Robert was a school teacher, principal and administrator in Kansas and Colorado. Mary and Bob were partners in life and also professionally; while Principal at Alden High School, Mary was his school secretary. In retirement both Mary and Bob opened and ran an Antique Shop in Alden, Kansas pursuing his lifelong passion of restoring antiques. As a team they would attend flea markets regularly selling their wares and scouring for treasures. Robert continued his love of restoration and attending flea markets until his death. Robert was a loving and passionate family man who stayed in close contact with all of his family until his death. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Alden and the American Legion Post #128. Robert is survived by wife, Mary Darlene Hauptman Moore; his sisters, Betty Morrell of Readfield, ME, and Gail Carmichael of Muncie, IN; his Daughters in-law Charlotte Moore of Fort Collins, CA and Jane Moore of Woodland, CA; six grandchildren Michael Moore, Cristina Moore, Chad Moore, Travis Moore, Lacy Pontes and Wyndi Johnson; and eleven great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his two sons, Michael Kent Moore, and Robert Bruce Moore and daughter, Vicki Lee Norwood; and sisters, ("Peggy") Margaret Moore McLaughlin and Francis Moore Gapen. A memorial service will be held at a later date along with internment at Alden Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be donated to the Shirley Ann Sullivan Education Foundation or to your local charity for those in need under “Robert Don Moore” in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
