Robert Norman Higgins, 93, of Lyons, passed away on December 3, 2017 at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River. He was born October 14, 1924 in Lyons, the son of Walter and Jessie Goodfellow Higgins Rife. He graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1943. Robert was a lifelong Rice County resident. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lyons, and United Methodist Church, Little River; Methodist Men; served on various committees at the Methodist Church; served as the Mitchell Township agriculture representative; served on the Lyons Coop Board and the Rice County Farm Bureau Board. Robert served in the United States Army from August of 1944 to October of 1946. On September 22, 1946, Robert was united in marriage with Lois Nadyne Hunter in Mitchell, KS. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth Higgins; and sister, Kathleen Hutchison. Robert is survived by two daughters, Barbara and Rick White of Haven, KS, and Marilyn and Steve Bremer of Topeka, KS; brother, Raymond and Norma Higgins of Lyons; seven grandchildren, Bryant Bremer, Eric White, Joel White, Crystal Stewart, Holly Glazer, Heidi Anderson, and Tylor Bremer; 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 8, 2017 at United Methodist Church, Lyons with Rev. Kim Shank officiating. Burial will be at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church, Lyons in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
