With sadness and rejoicing, the family of Rebecca (Becky) J. Cordell, 64, announces her passing on January 27, 2023. She was born July 8, 1958, in Little River, KS, the daughter of Frank and Betty (DeFord) Carlton. Becky graduated from Little River High School in 1976 and received her diploma from the Wesley School of Nursing in 1979. She worked as a registered nurse from 1979 until 1984. She was a stay-at-home mom until both children were in school. She then worked 20 years as a para professional in the Maize School District. She loved being with kids and helping them learn to read. It was her greatest professional honor to initiate and help implement “The Leader in Me” 7 Habits Stephen Covey program at Maize South Elementary School. She also worked as an administrative assistant at Cordell Wealth Management for 5 years and then retired to Manhattan, KS.
Becky was dearly devoted to family and friends. Her warm hospitality and genuine love reached many hearts. She followed and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and most recently attended Westview Community Church of Manhattan, KS. She is survived by her son, Nathan Cordell and wife Kathleen of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Jennifer Altwegg and husband Bryan of Riley, KS and grandchildren Annalise, Conrad, and Marilynn; sister Cindy Duell and husband Randy of Andale, KS, brother Terry Carlton and wife Bev of Leawood, KS; brother Kenny Carlton and wife Connie of Little River, KS and many nieces and nephews. Becky is preceded in death by her parents and niece Katelyn Duell.
Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 3, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.
A celebration of Becky’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Congregational Church of Little River, KS. Immediately after will be a burial at Bean Memorial Cemetery followed by a luncheon for all at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Little River Community Fund or Meadowlark Hospice in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
