Philip Wayne Markle

I am a better person for having met the Markle family.

Being from Hoisington, I remember Brynn and Brian from afar- mostly crossing paths during sporting events. I even remember playing drums at Barton County Community College during half times for both Brynn's and Brian's basketball games. It would take nearly 10 years before I would run into Brett, in a sports bar trying to watch the Jayhawks. Through Brett, the "Markle Experience" grew and I was blessed to interact with the entirety of the family more and more. I met Phil and Mary for the first time in Phoenix while celebrating my 40th with Brett. They opened there home and ingratiated me with food, drink and laughs. I loved those times around the dinner table. Upon Mary's passing, I would see Phil more as he began travelling more frequently to Seattle. We would pass along remembrances of Kansas while sitting on the deck at Brett's house in the summer air or next to a fire during Christmas Eve in my living room. Phil was made of the best Kansas fiber and being around him reminded me of honesty, hard work, the value of your word and understanding that we can do both, help ourselves while helping others. You will be missed Phil.
