Patrick Monroe Obituary

Patrick Alan Monroe, age 33, of Overland Park, Kansas, perished from injuries sustained during a mountain walking accident on April 6, 2023 on the northeast side of Beinn a’ Chleibh mountain near Tyndrum, Scotland. Patrick was born on June 7, 1989 to Mark and Joanne (Hysell) Monroe in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After Patrick graduated from Blue Valley Northwest High School, Overland Park, KS, in 2007, he went on to study Film and Media at the University of Kansas. Before graduating from KU in 2012, he started his career as an intern with Wide Awake Films which kick started his career in the film industry. He worked various roles in sound design, film editing, and lighting before settling as a Key Grip. Patrick started his independent business known as Arrowpoint Grip and Electric. He was a member of IATSE Local 493. Aside from his work, Patrick, an Eagle Scout, lived a life of adventure! He found peace with nature and traveled to the mountains whenever possible, with major highlights being the Rocky Mountains from Montana to New Mexico, and summiting Mount Kilimanjaro prior to embarking on his life mission of ‘Bagging the Munros’ in the Scottish Highlands. Patrick loved and honored his Scottish heritage and Clan Munro. A man who valued life and others, Patrick was often described as someone who was a friend to all. He was a light when times were dark, and he cared extensively for others. He made deep connections and was often seen with a smile on his face. Conversations and time shared with others always ended in one of his soul-touching hugs. Patrick is survived by his older sister, Amanda (Monroe) Schweiger, Olathe, Kansas, his brother-in-law, Ryan Schweiger, and nephews, Taven and Hunter Schweiger. Patrick is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Hysell of Lyons, Kansas, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Max and Florence Monroe. Patrick was cremated on April 27, 2023 with some of his remains spread at the home of Clan Munro, Foulis Castle, and Fyrish Monument, both in Evanton, Scotland, and Loch Glass, near what was meant to be his final Munro Mountain, Ben Wyvis. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Lyons, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made out to Mark Monroe; these funds will be distributed to the Scotland Rescue Teams that volunteered their time to help located Patrick.
