Patricia "Pat" L. Barta

Patricia Louise “Pat” Barta, 87, of Little River, Kansas, passed away on April 20, 2020 at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons, Kansas. She was born May 23, 1932, in rural Little River, the daughter of Frank and Hilda Shiells Fail. Pat graduated from Little River High School with the class of 1950. She was lifetime Little River resident. Pat worked as a bank teller for Home State Bank, Little River for 54 years. She was a member of Congregational Church, Little River, where she also served as a bookkeeper, member of Women’s Fellowship Group, Domestic Arts, 4-H Leader from 1970 until 2010, SCKLS Library System, and bookkeeper for Little River Union Township and Little River Library. Pat enjoyed cooking and baking for her friends and family. On May 3, 1952, Pat was united in marriage with Frederick Lee Barta in Little River. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her four children, Carla Shepherd and husband John of Hutchinson, KS, Kyle Barta and wife Lori of Little River, Ryan Barta and wife Jamie of Little River, and Emma Shepherd of South Hutchinson, KS; sister-in-law, Marianne Gawith of Salina; three grandchildren, Chris, Michael, and Megan Barta; and five great-grandchildren, Mackinze Barta, Steele Barta, Bryleigh Cook, Juli Barta, and Zayna Cook. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Keith and Ronald Fail; and two sisters, Thelma Louage and Zada Fail. A private funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M, Friday, April 24, 2020 at Congregational Church, Little River, with Pastor Ted Weis officiating. Burial will be at Bean Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Memorials may be given to Congregational Church, Little River in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
