Patricia Ann "Pat" (Bemis) Johannsen

Patricia Ann “Pat” Johannsen, 86, of Little River, Kansas, passed away October 15, 2023, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons, Kansas. She was born June 11, 1937, in Raymond, Kansas, the daughter of William LeRoy and Dorothy Mae (Starr) Bemis. Pat was a lifelong Little River resident. She graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1955. Pat worked on the farm alongside Ed and drove a school bus for 29 years for Little River USD444. She was a member of the Midland Community Church of Christ, where she also served on the council board and sang in the choir; a charter member of the Quilt Guild in Lyons, charter member of the Sweet Adeline Coronado Country for 30 years, and big supporter of Rice County 4-H. Pat was a avid quilter and professional seamstress. On May 27, 1955, Pat was united in marriage with Edward William “Ed” Johannsen at her parent’s home in Saxman, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2009. Pat is also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Gary Bemis. She is survived by her five children, Cindy Duggan and husband Wayne of Andover, KS, Terri Johannsen of Lyons, KS, Richard Johannsen and wife Laura of Lindsborg, KS, John Johannsen and wife Terri of McPherson, KS, and Kenneth Johannsen and wife Frances of Little River, KS; brother, Bill Bemis of Kingman, KS; sister, Shirley Ross of Sacramento, CA; five grandchildren, Chris Foskett and wife Stacey, Jacob Johannsen and wife Alyson, Joshua Johannsen and wife Christine, Jennifer Johannsen, and Michelle Johannsen; three bonus grandchildren, Bill Duggan and wife Kristy, Kara Frank and Josh Duggan and wife Stephanie; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 23, 2022, at the Midland Community United Church of Christ, rural Sterling, Kansas, with the Rev. Matt Perkins and Pastor Judy Michele officiating. Burial will follow at the Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Midland Community United Church of Christ or Emerald City Chorus Sweet Adelines in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
