Merle Dean Dupont, 85, of Chase, Kansas, passed away June 9, 2024, at Sterling Village, Sterling, Kansas. He was born April 9, 1939, in Chase, the son of Henry Ludwick and Lauerol Lucille (Tedford) Dupont. Merle was a near lifelong Chase resident. He graduated from Chase High School with the class of 1957 and received his bachelor’s degree in biology and business from Ft. Hays State University. Merle was a carpenter, stockbroker, and an entrepreneur. He was a member of the Lions Club in Chase, and the Elks Lodge of Hays, Kansas. Merle enjoyed playing sports as a child, watching all things sports, woodworking, and playing solitaire. On December 13, 2003, Merle was united in marriage with Iryna Lvovna Kalinina in Minsk, Belarus. Merle is survived by his wife, Iryna Dupont of Chase, KS; three children, Robin Johnson, Wendy Dupont, and Andrew Dupont all of Spokane, WA; stepson, Ilya Alexander Kalinin and wife Marisa of Hutchinson, KS; sister, Marilyn Ann Dupont of Chase, KS; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Drew, Madison, Grace, Ryland, Teagan, Nikolai, and Dimitri; and three great-grandchildren, Saige, Eden, and Birdie. Merle is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Elenora, Delbert, Harold, and Arlene Dupont. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date with burial at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chase. Memorials may be given to the Chase Senior Center in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
