Max Crowl Obituary

Max R. Crowl, 82, of Lyons, passed away July 1, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society, Lyons. He was born December 14, 1935 in Lyons, the son of J. Howard and Ruby Mae Massey Crowl. He graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1953. He later attended Washburn University and Kansas City Trade School for auto mechanics. Max was a lifelong Rice County resident. He was an employee of Young Motor Co., Lyons Manufacturing, Master Machine Tools, Northern Gas Products and Enron, retiring in 1999. Max was a volunteer for Habitat Restore and Friendship Meals; he was a member of Rice-Ellsworth Gideons where he served as memorial bible chairman; member of First Christian Church, Lyons, where he served as an elder, deacon, and held numerous other positions. Max was an avid sportsman. On June 3, 1956, Max was united in marriage with Patricia J. Plank at Congregational Church in Little River, Kansas. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Susan Plett and husband John of Sterling, KS; son, Ken Crowl and wife Bobi of Katy, TX; daughter-in-law, Earnie Crowl of Newton, KS, grandchildren, Joni Hust and husband Mark of Hutchinson, Dustin Plett and wife Angie of Sterling, Jonathan Crowl and wife Haley of Minneapolis, MN, Joanna Crowl of Portland, OR, James Crowl of Lincoln, NE and Chelsea Crowl of Newton, KS; great-grandchildren, Rylie and Kynli Plett of Sterling, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Dennis and Timothy Crowl in infancy and Tom Crowl; grandchild, Cameron Crowl. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M., Friday, July 6, 2018 at First Christian Church, Lyons with Pastor Ron DeVore officiating. Burial will be at Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River, KS. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorial can be made to First Christian Church, Lyons or Rice-Ellsworth Gideons in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
