Retired teacher and cattleman, Martin Jerome “Jerry” Robl, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, aged 89. Jerry was the husband of Judith Robl and father of four. He was born to Alvin Andrew (Dick) and Martha Irene (Link) Robl in Great Bend, KS, on May 16, 1933. Jerry grew up in the Chase, KS, area.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he graduated from Fort Hays Kansas State College with a Bachelor of Science degree. He taught mathematics for 33 years in Odin, El Dorado, Wichita, and Little River, retiring from USD 444 in 1993. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Ducks Unlimited, and the Liar’s Fishing Club.
Jerry is survived by his wife and children: Glenda Ganung, Orlando, FL; Catherine Robl and Thomas Robl (Leslie), both from Lyons; KS; and Jayne Laymon (Aaron), Saxman, KS; and his sister, Norma Higgins (Raymond), of Lyons, KS, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and his beloved cattle dog, Joe. He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Alvin and John Robl and three grandchildren Christopher, Joshua and Sarah Jones.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 16, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. A Parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons or Knights of Columbus Council #7422 in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
