Manuel Catherino Navarro, 86, of Lyons, passed away August 18, 2020 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born November 25, 1933 in Spearville, Kansas, the son of Frank Arrendondo and Magdalena Navarro. Manuel graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1951. He was a near lifelong Lyons resident, formerly of Hanston, Kansas. Manuel was a Master Electrician for North American Salt retiring after 45 years, and owner and operator of Navarro Electric for many years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, Knights of Columbus Council #7422, 4th Degree Quivira Council, Great Bend, Latineer Club, and former member of Lyons Club and Lyons Rotary Club. Manuel enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, loved feeding the animals, and watching the Chiefs and Royals. On August 18, 1979, Manuel was united in marriage with Mary Jane (Wilson) Oden. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his children, Cyndi Troyer and husband Mike Barnes of Grandview, MO, Tony Navarro and wife Ruby of Emporia, KS, Kathy Freund and husband Eric of Hutchinson, Greg Navarro and fiance Colleen Neal of Raymore, MO, Gil Navarro and wife Misty of Smithville, MO, and Jeff Oden of Pratt, KS; brother, Tony Arrendondo of Quitman, TX; two sisters, Ida Wilson of Lyons, and Rachel Colvard of Lyons; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; four nieces; and five nephews. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents; Frank Arrendondo and Magdalena (Navarro) Espinoza; step-dads, Anthony Mosqueda and Jesse Santoya; son, Michael Navarro; grandparents, Jesus and Theresa Navarro; and two brothers Robert Mosqueda, and Frank Arrendondo Jr. Funeral mass will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 22, 2020 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Patrick Kotrba officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 21, 2020 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons with family present. A parish rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M. Due to the coronavirus, seating at the church will be limited, and also masks will be required as social distancing will be practiced. For those that are unavailable to attend, the family has suggested offering a donation in Manuel’s honor of canned food or dried goods for the Rice County Food Bank. Donations may be left in the baskets of the entry way of the church or at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. The service will be live on St. Paul Catholic Church’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
