Lewis McCay Smith, 81, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away June 3, 2021 at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson. He was born May 7, 1940, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Paul and Patricia Irene Grubb Smith. Lewis has resided in Lyons since 2002, formerly of Hutchinson. He was a retired meat cutter for Dillions. Lewis served in the United States Army from November 24, 1959 until November 23, 1965. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Sterling, and Westside Baptist Church of Hutchinson. On February 6, 1960, Lewis was united in marriage with Jean Gail King in Lyons. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2019. Lewis is also preceded in death by his parents; and son, Kenneth A. Smith. He is survived by his three sons, Lewis M. Smith, Jr. of Sylvis, IL, Jeffrey C. Smith of Harrisburg, PA, and Kelly L. Smith of Lawrence, KS; daughter, Shelly M. Smith of Hutchinson, KS; brother, Paul Smith Jr. of Wichita, KS; three sisters, Emily McMullin of Wichita, KS, Sammy Pauline Russell of Colby, KS, and Princess Lynn Smith of Wichita, KS; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling Kansas, with Shelly Smith officiating. Military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
