Larry George Myers Obituary

Larry G. “Sox” Myers, 84, of Little River, Kansas, passed away January 5, 2024, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River. He was born June 8, 1939, in Little River, the son of Myrl and Geneva (Carlson) Myers. Sox has resided in Little River since 1967, formerly of Lindsborg and Windom, Kansas. He graduated from Windom High School with the class of 1957. Sox was very athletic and played many sports, including quarterback for the first 8-man football game held in the state of Kansas. He later received his bachelor’s degree in industrial arts from McPherson College. Sox served in the United States Air National Guard. He was a lifelong farmer at heart, having also worked at many industries in McPherson. Sox was also the assistant superintendent of utilities in Little River for several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Little River, where he served as trustee, lay leader, and usher; member of the United Methodist Men; former member of Little River Lions Club; former member of the Windom Fire Department; board member of the Castle Township; member of Little River American Legion; and Little River City Council. On June 3, 1962, Sox was united in marriage with Marilyn Stewart in Lincoln, Kansas. Sox is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Little River, KS; son, Kevin Myers and wife Patricia of Keller, TX; daughter, Gretchen Cox and husband Shawn of Lyons, KS; and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 15, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, Little River, with Pastor Anna Borders officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, with military honors. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Little River or Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
