Larry Douglas Sewell, 85, of Sterling, Kansas, passed way October 11, 2024, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons, with his family by his side. He was born September 6, 1939, in Oskaloosa, Kansas, the son of Warren G. and Marjorie M. (Berry) Sewell. Larry has resided in Sterling for the past five years, formerly of Lyons. He graduated from Lyons High School, with the class of 1957. Larry served in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1962. He worked for the United States Postal Service, as a mail carrier, from December of 1962 until December of 2007, in Lyons. Larry was a member of the CrossPoint Church, Sterling, Retreads Motorcycle Club, Letter Carriers Association, and Moose Lodge #982, Hutchinson, where he served as a former Governor. He enjoyed golfing, riding motorcycles and traveling. Larry and Connie toured thirty-eight states and Canada on a motorcycle. On January 22, 1961, Larry was united in marriage with Connie Pile in Lyons. He is survived by his wife, Connie Sewell of Sterling, KS; four children, Scott Sewell of Lawrence, KS, David Sewell of Lakeville, MN, Dennis Sewell of Clay Center, KS, and Amy Pieplow and husband Jeff of Sterling, KS; sister, Nancy Shuyler of Alden, KS; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 19, 2024, at CrossPoint Church, Sterling, with Pastor Michael Gray officiating. Burial will be at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, October 18, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to CrossPoint Church, Sterling in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
