Obituary

Kay Earlene Kennedy, 77, of Hutchinson, Kansas, was called to her heavenly home on August 23, 2023. Kay was born on February 12, 1946, in Canon City, Colorado to Joe and Ruth Brewster. Kay grew up and attended grade school thru high school in Lyons, Kansas. She obtained her real estate license in 1976 while living in Ponca City, Oklahoma and was a realtor for six years. Kay pursued her insurance license while residing with her family in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She received her insurance license in 1977. This became her career for over thirty years until her retirement. Kay’s daily focus each day was to do at least one meaningful thing. She also worked in food service in the Lyons’ schools before she retired. Kay loved being a mother to her three sons: Darren, Todd and Jeff Davison. She often said, “My boys are the loves of my life.” Raising these three was a full time job and monumental accomplishment to say the least! Kay was a den mother for her three sons. Kay loved her family and loved spending time with them and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kay enjoyed adventures to the park, sitting on her deck enjoying a beverage and visiting and watching the squirrels and birds. Kay also enjoyed planting flowers in her yard and mothering her “wiener”(dachshunds) babies: Millie, Choca(Chocolate) and Lucy. Kay loved to travel with Mark to Colorado and Mississippi to visit family. She enjoyed the casinos and viewing the mountains from the cabin deck and eating catfish in Mississippi. Kay was a member of the First Christian Church in Lyons, Kansas. Kay married Mark Kennedy on September 21, 1991, and he survives. Kay and Mark were married for thirty-one years and made their home in Lyons, Kansas and retired in Hutchinson, Kansas in 2013. Kay is survived by three sons: Darren Davison and wife, Anita of Hutchinson, Kansas, Todd Davison, Kosciusko, Mississippi, Jeff Davison and wife, Renee of Wichita, Kansas, a stepson, Jeff Kennedy of Dodge City, Kansas and stepdaughter, Melissa DeShon and husband, Terry of Sterling, Kansas. Kay had 10 grandchildren: Steven Davison and wife, Traci, Brian Davison, Michelle Davison, Rachel Davison and husband, John Baker all of Hutchinson, Kansas, Cody Davison and wife, Rachel and Kelly Armstrong and husband, Jason, all of Kosciusko, Mississippi, Amanda Will and husband, Jarrod of Newton, Kansas, Jenna Giefer and husband, Justin of Haven, Kansas, Trace DeShon, of Sterling, Kansas and Breahna Moeder and husband, Michael of Paradise, Kansas. Kay has 16 great-grandchildren: Miles, Jace, Jackson, Mackenzie, Travis, Charlee, Colton, Layla, Taten, Harlie, Hayden, Anthony, Ellie, Nicholas, Tucker and Greyson. Kay is also survived by a sister-in-law, Wanda Brewster, Lyons, Kansas. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ruth Brewster and a brother, Jim Brewster. A Celebration of Kay’s life will be at the First Christian Church in Lyons, Kansas, at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 28, 2023, with Pastor Nickia Larsen officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. A visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Kay’s memorial wishes are to Friends of Animals Rice County, First Christian Church, Lyons, or Traditions Health – Hospice and Home Health Care in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
