Katy Sparkman

Katy Sparkman, 31, of Lyons, KS, passed away May 13, 2020 at her home. She was born on April 17, 1989 in Amarillo, TX, the daughter of Steve Sparkman and Linda Thompson Friess. She has resided in Lyons most of her life. Katy graduated from Lyons High School, with the class of 2007. She graduated from Hutchinson Community College, where she was a member of the HCC Dragon Dolls. She received her Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from Kansas State University in 2013. Katy was a Speech Therapist having worked for EBS Healthcare. She was member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons; American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; member of the federally recognized Shawnee Tribe. She is survived by her mother, Linda Friess and husband Brian of Lyons; father, Steve Sparkman and wife Lori of Tulsa, OK; brothers, Tyler Sparkman of Tulsa, OK and Mathew Sparkman of Houston, TX; grandparents, Alice Thompson of Dewey, OK, David and Glenda Sparkman of Fairland, OK; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George Thompson, Frank and Garland Horn, and Lewis and Lois Friess. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M., Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons and from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M., at St. Paul Catholic Church with Parish Rosary at 7:00 P.M. There will also be a memorial service held in Tulsa, Oklahoma at a later date. Memorials may be given to Friends of Animals Rice County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
