Kathy Sue (Steele) Young

Kathy Sue Young, 61, of Bennington, Kansas, passed away September 7, 2024, at her home. She was born September 14, 1962, in Lyons, Kansas, the daughter of Jerry Richard and Irene Ellen (Carlson) Steele. Kathy has resided in Bennington since 2016, formerly of Turpin, Oklahoma. She graduated from Lyons High School, with the class of 1981. Kathy was an office manager and a homemaker. She was a member of the Women’s Golf Association in Liberal and Salina, Kansas. Kathy enjoyed golfing, buying golfing equipment, attending family activities, and most of all spending time with her family. On December 1, 2018, Kathy was united in marriage with Joe Young in Lyons, Kansas. She is survived by her husband, Joe Young of Bennington, KS; two sons, Adam Young of Manhattan, NY, and Jordan Young and wife Angelica of Long Island, NY; father-in-law, Dell Young of Lyons; four sisters, Victoria Cadena of Louisburg, KS, Tammy Unruh and husband Kenny of Latham, KS, Kimberly White and husband Bill of Champion, NE, and Jody Little and husband Steven of Kingman, KS; sister-in-law, Kay Frank and husband Robert of Lyons, KS; six grandchildren, Alexandria Young, Julian Young, Christian Young, Quinton Swartz, Genevieve Swartz, and Izabella Swartz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents; and son, Christopher Swartz. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, Lyons, with Pastor Christine Deeds officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 13, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to Tammy Walker Cancer Center, Salina, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
