Kathie June Zielke Keimig, 71, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at her home near Sterling, Kansas. She was born October 5, 1952, the oldest child of John and June Zielke. She grew up in Hesston, Kansas where she graduated from Hesston High School in 1970. She attended Hutchinson Community College, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Nursing. During her time in college she met and fell in love with Michael Keimig. They were married on August 5, 1972. Michael and Kathie were blessed with four daughters, Kellie, Krisha, Katie, and Kendra. Kathie was baptized at Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston and after marriage attended the Sterling Evangelical Mennonite Church. She was actively involved in the church, both teaching Sunday school classes and directing the AWANA program. Kathie spent 38 years in the Nursing profession and 46 years alongside her husband building their business, Keimig Harvesting. Throughout those years she invested in many lives by cooking meals, mentoring, and never-ending support. Longtime customers and employees became lifelong friends. Those who preceded her in death are her parents, John and June and her parents-in-law, Kenneth and Odetta Keimig. Survivors include Michael Keimig, her loving husband of 51 years; daughter, Kellie (Jay), Emily Sheppard, Karsyn, and Lauryn Schmalzried, Dighton, KS; daughter, Krisha (Todd), Ava, Garrison, Addy, and Ayla Zerger, Salina, KS; daughter, Katie (Seth), Elijah, Miriam, Annabelle, and Judiah Sanders, Bartlesville, OK; daughter, Kendra (Vince), Brooklyn, and Alli Martinez, Parker, CO; sister, Karen (Dave) Zumwalt, Wichita, KS; brother, John Zielke, Goessel, KS; Jim (Patti) Zielke, Weddington, NC; sister-in-law, Glenna (Rob) Nance, Weston, MO; brother-in-law, Steven (Tammy) Keimig, Isabel, KS, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, with Pastor Phil Carroll officiating. Burial will follow at the Peace Valley Cemetery, rural Sterling. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with family present. Memorial contributions may be made to Sterling Evangelical Bible Church in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
