John Eldon Whiteman, 83, of Little River, Kansas, passed away January 18, 2020 at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. He was born July 29, 1936 at River View Farm in rural Little River, the son of John Walter and Neva Mildred Oswalt Whiteman. John graduated from Little River High School with the class of 1954, and later received his associate’s degree from Hutchinson Community College. He was a lifelong Little River resident. John was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Little River, and a member of the Quarter Horse Association. On July 29, 1956, John was united in marriage with Phyllis Jean Morris in Little River. She preceded him in death on January 5, 1993. John is also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son Sean Whiteman and wife Debbie of Lyons, KS; daughter, Zoe Kratzer and husband Eric of Geneseo, KS; three grandchildren, Hank Whiteman and wife Terra of Overland Park, KS, Cody Whiteman of Chicago, IL, and Zane Kratzer of Geneseo, KS; and one great-grandson, Asher Whiteman of Overland Park, KS. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River, with Pastor Jeff Goetzinger officiating. Memorials may be given to Little River Senior Center in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
