John Lawrence Griffitt

John Lawrence Griffitt, 54, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away February 15, 2024, at his home. He was born May 27, 1969, in Lyons, Kansas, the son of Larry and Ada Marie (Briscoe) Griffitt. John graduated from Lyons High School in 1987. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during Desert Storm and served in the military police for 10 years. After his service he owned his own roofing business then worked for Compass Salt Plant, Lyons. He worked for Johns Manville, McPherson and then worked at Cargill Salt in Hutchinson. John was united in marriage to Jamie Dumas March 10, 2000. He had two children from the marriage. He was baptized in Little River, Kansas. He attended the First Baptist Church in Lyons. John loved working on vehicles, playing and coaching baseball with his kids. He was an avid fisherman and member of the Liars Fishing Club. John was preceded in death by his grandparents Lawrence Griffitt, Alma Briscoe and brother, Jamie Baxter. John is survived by his wife Jamie, son Drayton, Lyons; daughter Logan, Lyons; mother and stepfather, Ada and Bill Baxter, Lyons; father Larry, Sterling; 2 brothers, Brian, Lyons; William Baxter, Lyons and three sisters, Danya Seuell, Colorado, Shannon, Minnesota, Roxie, and a grandson, Saint Lawrence Griffitt to be born in May. Funeral service will be at Birzer Funeral Home, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 1:00 P.M., with Wendi Lea officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 23, 2024 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
