Jesse Richard Stover Sr., 92, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on June 24, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. He was born December 13, 1927 in Nowata, Oklahoma, the son of Melvin William and Dolly Quigley Stover. Jesse has resided in McPherson for the past 4 years, formerly of Stafford, Lyons, and Chase, Kansas. He was a minister for over 50 years and an operator for Kizzar Well Service for 35 years. Jesse serviced in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1945 until 1953. He was a life member Kansas VFW, member of the Christian Church and Academy in Hutchinson, and attended the New Hope Church in McPherson. Jesse enjoyed reading the Bible, playing guitar, singing, and taught chapel; and most of all loved spending time with his family. On March 2, 1950, Jesse was united in marriage with Patricia A. Skaggs in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2008. He is also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shelley Hogg; three grandchildren, Bobby Hogg Jr., Tamara Foster, and Christopher Foster; great-grandson, Matthew Stover; and numerous brothers and sisters. Jesse is survived by his children, Jesse R. Stover Jr. and wife Linda of Sterling, KS, Teresa Smith and husband Bob of McPherson, KS, Lillian Jesseph of McPherson, KS, Joseph Stover and wife Amy of Hutchinson, KS, Marsha Akins and husband Mike of Hutchinson, KS, and David Stover and wife Lisa of Chase, KS; two brothers, Ernest Stover of Nowata, OK, and Billy Stover of Delaware, OK; sister, Shirley Patrick and husband Dale Nowata, OK; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 29, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Pastor David LeRoy. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery with military honors by the McConnell Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation will be from the 3:00 until 5:00 P.M., Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present. Memorials may be given to Joyce Meyer Ministries in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
