Janie (Martinez) Werner

Janie Werner, 68, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away June 14, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born October 27, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of Raul “Rudy” and Francisca Perez Martinez. Janie has resided in Lyons since 1991, formerly of Chase and Raymond, Kansas. She was a clerk at Doug’s Hometown Foods in Lyons for many years. Janie was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons. She enjoyed softball, running and riding her bicycle. Janie had a great sense of humor, was very dedicated to her family, and enjoyed spending time with and supporting her children and grandchildren. On February 12, 1977, Janie was united in marriage with Curtis Shawn Werner Sr. in Chase, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2016. She is also preceded in death by her father, Raul Martinez; and son, Victor Werner. Janie is survived by her mother, Francisca Martinez of Chase, KS; two sons, C.J. Werner and wife Marcella of McPherson, KS, and Lucas Werner of Lyons, KS; three brothers, Luis Martinez of Chase, KS, Raul Martinez Jr. and wife Karen of Lyons, KS, Lasaro “Larry” Martinez and wife Dee of Lyons, KS; three sisters, Beatrice Olson and husband Gary of Lyons, KS, Sally Lopez and husband Martin of Lyons, KS, and Mary Lopez and husband Juan of Topeka, KS; and five grandchildren, Mia and Isabella Arce, Jada, Xavier and Belladonna Werner. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 22, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 22, 2023 at St. Paul Catholic Church, with family present. A Parish rosary will be said at 10:30 A.M., at the church. The family requests memorials be given to Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons to help offset funeral expenses.
