James Lee "Jim" Flory

James Lee “Jim” Flory, 79, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away October 29, 2025, at Olathe Hospice House. He was born March 8, 1946, in Lyons, Kansas, the son of Leland Everett and Hallie Mable (Trump) Flory. Jim has resided in Overland Park since 2007, formerly of Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1964 and attended Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University. On March 8, 1968, Jim was united in marriage with Dana Lucille Hendrickson in Lyons, KS. Jim was the owner of Flory and Company construction company as a general contractor. After selling his company, he worked in commercial equipment sales and the Liberty Missouri Sheriff’s Department, where he retired. He was a member of Blue Valley Church, Overland Park, KS. Jim loved his dogs, and enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking, writing Spencerian script, hunting, fishing with grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and listening to the Gaither’s Southern Gospel music. But above all, he loved spending time with his family and being in God’s Word. On March 8, 1968, Jim was united in marriage with Dana Lucille Hendrickson in Lyons, KS. Jim is survived by his wife, Dana Flory of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Kimberly Petracek (Steven) of Overland Park, KS; and two grandchildren, Alexandra Grace Phan (Nguyen) of Des Moines, IA, and Zachary Petracek of Cheyenne, WY. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Flory; and brother, David Flory. Graveside service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Blue Valley Church Library or Dallas Dog Rescue Rehab and Reform in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, KS.
