Obituary

Jaime (Pedro) Padilla-Zapata of Great Bend, KS died June 6th, 2023, at the age of 56. He was born June 4, 1967, in Mexico. He was the son of Reina and Antonio Rivas. Once he arrived in Kansas, Jaime worked in many feed yards and different cattle operations, finally setting roots south of Great Bend with his wife Megan. On September 28, 2019, he was united in marriage with Megan (Ludwig) Padilla. Jaime loved his family and his pets, especially his furry companion Vaquero. He loved to spend time roping with his long-time horses Band-Aid, Nike and Barbie. Jaime was known for frequenting fishing holes, often joking that he’d caught a shark. He was a humble man with a kind heart, he didn’t know a stranger. Jaime enjoyed camping and cooking outside over the campfire as much as he could and entertaining all. He fought a courageous battle with many health issues and was stubborn until the end. Survivors include his wife, Megan Padilla of the home; Reina and Antonio Rivas (parents), Scott and Tina Ludwig (in-laws) and family. His brothers include Raul (Josie) Rivas, William Rivas, Red Padilla, Lionel (Joann) Padilla, Bill (Vicki) Padilla, Kiko (Leova) Padilla; Sisters: Cuca (Carlos) Duran, Licha (Peo) Guerrero and Sandra (Mario) Padilla. Two half-sisters, Imelda and Lizeth also survive and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Susana Zapata Padilla, Nicolas Padilla Sanchez, Ricardo Rivas, Elaine Padilla, Theresa Padilla, Alan Padilla and Junior Rivas. Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Monday, June 12, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. A rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the Jaime Padilla-Zapata Memorial Fund in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Let me leave you with this thought today… As Jaime entered the gates of Heaven, he was met by the Lord who was gathering horses. Once gathered the Lord looked at Jaime and said, “When are you going to ride these horses.” Jaime sat down, took a sip of his drink and said…. “Tomorrow.”
