Helen Louise Click Stockstill was a lifetime Rice County resident, born at the Click homestead east of the Geneseo community on April 30, 1935. Born to Oliver M. and Ruby L. Burnett Click, she was the oldest of three children. The family moved into a new home in Geneseo when Helen was 10 to 12 years old. Helen attended Geneseo schools, graduating from Geneseo High School in 1953. After attending Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina for a year she returned to Geneseo and married her high school sweetheart, Vance D. Shuttleworth on June 13, 1954. The marriage produced four children. The couple later divorced and on January 14, 1984, Helen married William Stanley Stockstill at Geneseo. In addition to working on the family farm, Helen’s professional life included clerk for the city of Geneseo, the Ellsworth County Treasurer’s office and the American Salt Company of Lyons. Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church of Geneseo, the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons, Sweet Adelines, Bethany Oratorio Society of Lindsborg (including a performance of “The Messiah” at Carnegie Hall), Geneseo American Legion Auxiliary and the Geneseo High School Alumni (attending 70 consecutive alumni banquets). Helen served her Lord and churches singing in the choir, playing the organ, directing the handbell choir, as Sunday school superintendent and teacher and serving on numerous church committees. She also spent several years as Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader for her children and others in the Geneseo community, including her “favorite Girl Scout.” Helen enjoyed many hobbies and activities including sewing, crocheting, painting, singing, playing the piano and organ, woodworking, gardening, Burnett Clan genealogy, meeting friends at “Scrambled Sam’s” (her extended family), but most of all, traveling anywhere and everywhere with Stanley or her children (including two trips to the family castle in Scotland). Helen was preceeded in death by her parents, infant brother Glenn H Click, younger brother John O. Click and his wife Shirley Kindle Click, husbands Vance D. Shuttleworth and William Stanley Stockstill, stepson Daniel Stockstill and grandchild Kristin Chitty. She is survived by her four children, daughters Daylene and Jon Linville, Brenda and Bob Jackson, Rhonda and Chris Wilson all of Rice County and son Russell and Nancy (LeRoy) Shuttleworth of Olathe, stepson Daryl and Kathy (Gray) Stockstill of Columbia, MO, stepdaughter Susan (Alexander) Stockstill of Geneseo, 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church, Lyons, with Rev. Lara MacGregor officiating. Burial will follow at the Geneseo Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, October 27, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Designated memorials are to the Lyons First Presbyterian Church and The Rice County Council on Aging in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
