Gerald Davis Obituary

Gerald Lee Davis, 87, of Lyons, Kansas, passed from this life to eternal life with Jesus on February 9, 2021 in his home surrounded by family. He was born in Lorraine, Kansas on February 5, 1934 the son of James H. Davis and Bertha (Eveland) Davis. Gerald graduated from Burrton High School with the class of 1952. He worked for the Jayhawk Pipeline as a measurement technician in Garden City, Liberal, and Lyons for 40 years until his retirement in January of 1997. Gerald served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958 stationed in Maryland. He was in the 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment and the Army Reserve for four years. Gerald enjoyed hunting elk in Colorado with his brother-in-law for many years. He cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs and the K.U. Jayhawks in their victories and in defeats. His kindness and gentle spirit was evidenced at Sterling Village, Lyons Hospital, Hutchinson Hospital, and Kindred Hospice as he was helped with his needs. Gerald was a member of the Lyons Liars Fishing Club and the Rice County Sportman’s Club. He married Rosalie Evans in Newton, Kansas, on July 31, 1953. To this union was born Kelly Davis, Brenda Verrette, and Joel Davis, all of Lyons. He is survived by his wife of 67 years; children, grandchildren, Davis Verrette of Hutchinson, KS, Lauren Saenz (Luis) of Lyons, Heather Kuhn (Dylan) of Victoria, KS, Drew Davis (Shellie) of Bennington, KS, Holly Young (Zach) of Hays, KS; and four great-grandchildren, Jetta and Kase Davis, Emilio Saenz, and Maverick Kuhn. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur Davis; and sister, Jo Lacy. Gerald loved the Lord and served Him in many ways in churches and living his life. He was a member of CrossPoint Church. Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with military honors by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M, Friday, February 12, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army or CrossPoint Church in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
