Gene Dorris Obituary

Gene Ray Dorris, 57, of Geneseo, Kansas, passed away October 11, 2023, surrounded by family at his home. He was born June 30, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the son of Melvin and D’Ann (Green) Dorris. Gene has resided in Geneseo for the past eight years, formerly of Paoli, Colorado. He graduated from high school in Amarillo, Texas, with the class of 1988. Gene enjoyed working at different workshops around the country. He participated in Special Olympics since he was six years old, taking part in wrestling, long jump, swimming, basketball and bowling. Gene loved music, playing his guitar, dancing, and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his parents, Melvin and D’Ann Dorris of Geneseo, KS; sister, Janet Stream and husband Dave of Geneseo, KS; two nieces, Sara Ramirez and husband Ernest of Haven, KS, and Jessica Runyon of Hutchinson, KS; six great-nieces and nephews, Kai, Damion, Kalia, Makena, Alexandria, and Alice Mae; four aunts, Peggy Green of Grant, NE, and Paula Haynes and husband Tom of Grant, NE, Betty Green of Mansfield, TX, and Linda Green of Corrigan, TX; uncle, Stan Dorris of Pueblo, CO; and numerous cousins. Gene is preceded in death by his grandparents; eight uncles; and seven aunts. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Geneseo United Methodist Church, with Pastor Steve Holmes and Chaplain Luke Helmuth officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Arthur Cemetery, Arthur, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to 55 Plus (Geneseo Senior Center) in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
