Frances Rose Settle, 86, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away May 30, 2022, at her home. She was born September 18, 1935, in Walters, Oklahoma, the daughter of W.J. “Bill” and Elsie Fatheree Reece. Frances has resided in Lyons since 2008, formerly of Chickaska, Oklahoma. She graduated from Anadarko High School, Anadarko, Oklahoma, with the class of 1954. Frances was co-owner and co-publisher of The Chickasha Star, The Tuttle Times, and The Minco Minstrel from 1975 until 1996. She was also co-publisher of several Kansas newspapers, The Tiller and Toiler, Larned, Ellinwood Leader, Ellinwood, Hoisington Dispatch, and Lyons News. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Chickasha, OK, Oklahoma Press Association, Altruisa Club, Chickasha, OK, Main Street in Chickasha, OK, and Worthwhile Book Club in Lyons. On April 9, 1955, Frances was united in marriage with H. Marshall Settle in Anadarko, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 6, 2006. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Billy, Wayne, and Jimmy Reece; and two sisters, Charlene Manthei and Joyce Reece. Frances is survived by her two sons, John Settle and wife Paula of Oklahoma City, OK, and David Settle and wife Anita of Lyons, KS; brother, Tommy Reece of Abilene, TX; sister, Gwen Moser of Norman, OK; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Chickasha, Oklahoma with burial at the Memory Lane Cemetery, Anadarko, Oklahoma. Memorials may be given to the Oklahoma Press Foundation, 3601 N.
