Florene I. (Curtright) Maxwell

Florene I. Maxwell, 85, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away June 27, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society, Lyons. She was born July 10, 1934, in Lyons, the daughter of Leon and Verna Huggins Curtright. Florene was a Rice County resident for the past 50 years. She graduated from Lyons High School. Florene was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lyons, Eastern Star, and a life member of the Kansas Muzzle Loaders Association. On November 28, 1964, Florene was united in marriage with Elva L. Maxwell in Lyons. He preceded her in death on September 18, 2015. She is also preceded in death by her parents; first husband, David Newell; and brothers, Donald D. Smith and Harold Curtright. Florene is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Newell of Wichita, KS, and Mark Maxwell of Manhattan, KS; three daughters, Patty Swiercinsky of Topeka, Cheryl Bernhardt of Lyons, and Beth Lorett of Buhler, KS; twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Lyons Municipal Cemetery with Rev. Lara MacGregor officiating. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Heart Association in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
