Everett Smith Obituary

Everett Glenn “Eddie” Smith, 86, of Sterling, passed away September 5, 2020 at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. He was born December 22, 1933 in Madison, Kansas, the son of Merle E. and Helen M. Allen Smith. Eddie has resided in Sterling for the past 61 years, formerly of Hutchinson, Kansas. He owned and operated Smith Bros. Fina and was a mechanic at the Chevy Garage in Sterling. Eddie enjoyed reading Western’s, collecting rocks, fishing, and etching glass. On November 22, 1963, Eddie was united in marriage with Verta I. (Anderson) Thompson in Hutchinson. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his five children, Doreen Farmer and husband Allan of Sterling, Norris Smith and wife Rosie of Sterling, Pam (Thompson) Stansel and husband Lynn of Hutchinson, Mitch Thompson of Sterling, and Donnie Thompson and wife Natalie of Alden; brother, Ralph Smith and wife Pat of Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Verna Smith of Hutchinson; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmie Dean and Paul Smith; and a son, A. Lee Thompson. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be at a later date at Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 11, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling. Memorials may be given to the Sterling Police Department or the Rice County EMS in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
