Eunice Lea (Darland) Wendelburg

Eunice Lea Wendelburg, 95, of Larned, Kansas, passed away June 12, 2020 at her home. She was born May 5, 1925 in Gove, Kansas, the daughter of Lee and Goldie Coop Darland. Eunice owned and operated Carris Grocery Store in Alden and Pawnee Rock, Kansas, with her late husband, Glen. She also was a LPN at the Larned State Hospital, Larned. Eunice was a member of the Alden American Legion Auxiliary and Pawnee Rock American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and gardening. On August 19, 1948, Eunice was united in marriage with Alvin “Glen” Carris in Hutchinson, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1986. On April 19, 1992, Eunice was united in marriage with Edwin C. Wendelburg. He preceded her in death in 2007. She is also preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Dick Wendelburg; brother, Delmar Darland; and grandson, Bobby Ruiz. Eunice is survived by her children, Virginia Stout and husband Malvin of Alden, Elmer Carris of Hutchinson, KS, Linda Reiners and companion Bud of Superior, NE, Shelia Rodriguez and husband Joe of Larned, KS, Barbara Joyce Pennington and husband Walter of Great Bend, KS, Alvin Carris Jr. and wife Carla of St. Marie, ID, and Clayton Carris and wife Lori of Pawnee Rock, KS; step-daughter, Mary Ann Wendelburg of Oklahoma City, OK; step-daughter-in-law, Linda Wendelburg of Tribune, KS; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Alden Valley Cemetery, Alden, Kansas with Walter Pennington officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Monday, June 15, 2020 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
