Estelle Lois Reed, 89, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away in Lyons on August 23, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born January 25, 1935, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, the daughter of Orville and Marguerite (Wilson) Colberg. Estelle was a longtime Lyons resident. She graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1953 and attended Kansas State University. She was a farm wife and homemaker. Estelle was the longest member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lyons, where she held many positions over the years. She was an member of Rainbow Girls, Golden Girl (fifty-year) PEO Chapter C member, Rice County Council on Aging, 4-H leader, Lyons Chamber of Commerce, Celebration Centre founding member, Rice County Pork Producers and Rice County Extension Council member. Estelle volunteered at the Northern Rice County Food Bank and delivered Meals on Wheels. She loved traveling, the arts, and serving others. Estelle enjoyed receiving emails from family and was very involved in the lives and development of her family. She struggled with technology but appreciated it when she got it working. Estelle loved Facebook and FaceTime to keep current with her family and friends. On July 18, 1954, Estelle was united in marriage with Harold Wayne Reed in Lyons. Together they traveled for Harold’s Air Force military service. They returned to Rice County to establish a farm, raise their family, serve the community and build a home. Both especially encouraged education. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1987. She is also preceded in death by her parents; and son, Douglas Wayne Reed. Estelle is survived by her brother, Glenn Colberg of Lyons; her two daughters, Kay Kessinger of Evansville, IN, and Ellen Brand (Bill) of Hopkins, MO; daughter-in-law, Debbie Reed of Denver, CO; eight grandchildren, Jason Colberg (Michelle), Kevin Colberg (Amanda), Amber Anderson (David), Emily Nakayama (Jess), Kimberly Kay (Brett), David Brand (Stephanie), Nick Reed (Lauren), and Lindsey Ricci (Chris); sixteen great-grandchildren; with one great-grandchild and one great-great grandchild on the way. She was also a loving aunt to multiple nieces and nephews and a friend to many. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Lara MacGregor officiating. A private family burial will be at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 30, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
