Eric Todd Smith

Eric T. “Smitty” Smith, 60, of McCook, Nebraska, passed away July 12, 2025, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska. He was born February 22, 1965, in Lyons, Kansas, the son of Carl and Josephine (Limones) Smith. Eric graduated from Lyons High School, with the class of 1983. After graduation, he joined the United States Army. Eric relocated to McCook, Nebraska several years ago, formerly of Lyons. He worked at Kugler Company in McCook, Nebraska. Eric was a passionate pool player, participating in pool tournaments all over the United States. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards and hanging out with family and friends. Most of all, Eric loved to cook for family and friends and catered for numerous events. He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Evaristo and Elvira Limones and Agnes Meek. Eric is survived by his mother, Josephine Smith of Lyons, KS; sister, Michelle Schlesinger of McPherson, KS; brother, James (Rita) Smith of Lyons, KS; uncle, Fernando “Bernie” Limones; two nieces, Amy Nye and Abby Bohnenblust; three nephews, Travis Smith, Joseph Smith and Shawn Smith; three great-nephews; three great-nieces; and two grandsons-by-heart, Gage and Easton Lytle both of McCook, NE. Visitation will be Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Parish Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Funeral service will be Friday, July 25, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Father Babu Pinninti officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons Municipal Cemetery.
