Rice County native, Elaine Dill passed away on June 22, 2023, at Hospital District #1 Rice County. She was born October 15, 1922, to George H. and Martha M. (Wilkin) Gill in Sterling at her grandparents’ home on North Broadway. She lived in Raymond with her parents and two brothers, George and Robert until her eighth-grade year when her family moved to Sterling. She graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1940, and later attended Sterling College, University of Kansas, Adele Hale Business College, and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Hutchinson. Elaine was busy with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, teaching Sunday School, bridge clubs, bowling, and golfing. She was a member of D.A.R. and Rice County Republican Women. She and Frank enjoyed dances in the area. They supported their children and grandchildren in many activities over the years. On June 5, 1946, Elaine was united in marriage with Frank L. Dill in Wichita. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2005. She is also preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Frances Evelyn Gill; daughter-in-law, Gloria Dill; two brothers, George L. Gill (Florence), Robert L. Gill (Marjorie); and two brothers-in-law, Joe McFarland, and Raymond Dill. Elaine is survived by her four children, Robert Dill of Wichita, Ramona Hankins and husband Kenneth of Timnath, CO, Tom Dill and wife Bev of Sterling, KS, and Beverly Jones and husband Alan of Wichita, KS; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Roberta McFarland of Topeka, KS; numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 30, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with Pastor Melissa Krabbe officiating. Burial will follow at the Raymond Hilltop Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with family present 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to Rice Community Healthcare Foundation (for the Swing Bed Unit) or Sterling College in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
