Duane Gerard Wood

Duane G. Wood, (62), peacefully passed away August 15, 2023, at home with beloved family and dogs by his side. Born in Lyons, KS on December 25th, 1960, to parents Betty and Virgil Wood, Duane was a lifelong resident of Chase, KS. He graduated from Chase High School and spent the last several years of his career as a production superintendent for Nadel and Gussman. An active member of his community, Duane volunteered as a firefighter for numerous years, a member of the USD 401 Board of Education for 30 years, youth baseball coach, and a member of the Raymond Baptist Church. Duane is survived by wife, Rebecca Wood, married August 9th, 1996; daughters, Nicole Foster(Dennis) of Meade, KS, and April Miller(Troy) of Dallas, TX, Lauren Robertson (Jason) of Sedgwick, KS; sons, Nathan Wood (Cherise) of Ellinwood, KS and Nicholas Wood (Amber) of Sterling, KS; grandchildren, Derek Foster, Domanic Wood, Lake Foster, TJ Miller, Jayden Robertson, Kamden Wood, Kearra Wood, Adelyn Miller, and Cillian Robertson expected in October; siblings, Luanna Maes (Mike) of Lyons, KS, Richard Wood (Saundra) of Woodlands, TX, Dale Wood (Vicki) of Great Bend, KS, Jeanine Link (Howard) of Chase, KS, and Teresa Crowl (Jim) of Lyons, KS, David Wood (Tracy) of Chase, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Donald Wood (Carla) of Tulsa, OK. Duane will be remembered for his kind heart, ornery wit, giving and supportive nature, faith, and unwavering strength. He was an avid coin collector, loved fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. A visitation will be held at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling, KS on Friday, August 25th from 5-7pm. The funeral will be held at the Raymond Baptist Church on Saturday, August 26th at 11 am with reception to follow at the Raymond Community Center.
