Douglas Charles Caywood Obituary

Douglas (Doug) Charles Caywood, 70, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on May 25, 2023 at Hospice House. Doug was born on April 12, 1953 in Hutchinson, the son of John and Doris (Stout) Caywood. Doug attended Alden grade school, and Alden and Chase high schools, where he participated in track, football, and basketball. Doug graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in agricultural economics. While at KSU, he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity where he served a term as president and made life-long friends. Doug was united in marriage with Vicki Blackburn on February 6, 1982 at the Baptist Church in Alden. Doug enjoyed his life’s work as a farmer and cattleman because this afforded him the opportunity to be outdoors to enjoy and be a good steward of God’s creation. He was an avid jogger, biker, and basketball player. Doug and Vicki traveled to many beautiful locations on their vacations. Throughout his life Doug walked humbly with his God and personified the fruit of the Spirit of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in law, Lila Blackburn; brother-in-law Steve Blackburn, and niece Reannan Kloxin. He is survived by his wife; his sister Kathryn Caywood and husband Phil Robertson, Jr. of West Chester Pennsylvania; father-in-law, Delma Blackburn of Sterling; sister-in-law Jane Blackburn of Raymond; sister-in-law and brother-in law Lorie and Victor Taylor of Cedarcreek, Missouri; four nieces and nephews, David Joe Blackburn, Shana Givens and husband Cliff, Jeremy Taylor and wife Melissa, and Joshua Taylor and wife Becca; and nine great-nieces and nephews, Steve Blackburn, Abigail Blackburn, Allison Blackburn, Rylan Birkby, Brynley Taylor, Camilla Taylor, Brecken Taylor, Cian Taylor, and Carter Taylor. A funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the Alden Baptist Church, Alden, with Pastor Matt Hendricks officiating. Burial will be at the Raymond Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Alden Baptist Church or Hospice of Reno County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, 203 N 7th Street, Sterling, KS 67579. Doug’s family and friends give special thanks to the staff of Hospice House and the nurses in the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Outpatient Infusion Department for the compassionate and supportive care provided to Doug and Vicki during his illness.
