Dorothy Marie Christensen, 98, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away June 10, 2023, at the Sterling Village, Sterling. She was born January 21, 1925, in Matheson, Colorado, the daughter of William M. and Bessie Emma Armstrong Atwell. Dorothy has resided in Sterling for the past two years, formerly of Lyons, Kansas. She was a cook at a nursing home for many years and also a housewife. Dorothy was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and VFW both of Lyons. On April 11, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage with Glenn L. Treaster. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1966. On December 5, 1968, Dorothy was united in marriage with Ivan N. “Herbie” Christensen. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1992. She is also preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; two sons, Lewis G. Treaster and Jerry L. Treaster; five brothers, Donald A. Atwell, Russell G. Atwell, Leslie W. Atwell, Harold D. Atwell, and Kenneth A. Atwell; and sister, Blanche E. Turner. Dorothy is survived by her son, Richard L. Treaster of Colorado; daughter in law, Kitty Treaster of Lyons, KS; twelve grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M., Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home, with Chaplain Bob Phipps officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 16, 2023, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Memorials may be given to Gentiva Hospice in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
